ObserverBuoy 3m

Intelligent acoustic monitoring in harsh conditions

JASCO’s OceanObserver electronics suite in a 3-metre buoy. A rugged, highly-capable system for autonomous operation in harsh marine conditions. It performs onboard signal processing to produce:

  • Marine mammal detections

  • Ambient noise statistics

  • Impulse detections — seismic, sonar, or pile driving

  • Vessel source signatures

  • Other information products as desired

Marine mammal detections can include click events up to 256 kHz in frequency. The ObserverBuoy is controlled via an intuitive PC-based application that allows the system to be powered on/off or to be duty-cycled on a schedule.

Information can be relayed to shore via multiple wireless links, where it is made available online or distributed to users as emails. This allows stakeholders to control the system and receive the data via smartphone, tablet, or computer—ideal for on site users including marine mammal observers and construction monitoring personnel.
